On 27 May 2026, ARTEMIS project partner Ecoacsa participated in a webinar organised by the Latin Natural Capital Community (ComLAc), bringing together around 50 participants from across the region to discuss the role of Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) in advancing sustainable economic development.
Delivered in Spanish, the webinar focused on the growing need to build a more sustainable economy, the crucial role of the private sector in driving this transition, and the contribution that natural capital initiatives can make in supporting informed decision-making and long-term resilience.

During the session, participants explored the importance of establishing robust, transparent, and replicable Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems, as well as the need for a common language and shared methodologies among stakeholders. In this context, the Capitals Coalition framework and the recently published ISO 14054:2025 standard on Natural Capital Accounting were presented as key references for advancing harmonised approaches to natural capital assessment.
Represented by ARTEMIS project partner Ecoacsa, David Álvarez García and Enrique Álvarez García provided an overview of the methodologies being developed within the ARTEMIS project. They presented the Natural Capital Accounting process designed by the project, which offers a comprehensive framework for compiling ecological monitoring data alongside ecosystem services valuation. The methodology enables the generation of multiple outputs and supports the integration of environmental information into decision-making processes.
At the current stage of the project, particular attention has been given to the development of Natural Capital Balance Sheets for each ARTEMIS pilot site and to the design of the Seagrass Credit System. The speakers also introduced the Seagrass Credit System framework, outlining the 12 key steps involved in the credit issuance process and highlighting its potential to support the conservation and restoration of seagrass ecosystems through credible and measurable environmental outcomes.
The webinar provided an excellent opportunity to share ARTEMIS results with the Latin American natural capital community, fostering dialogue on practical approaches to valuing nature and strengthening collaboration between public and private stakeholders committed to sustainability.
