The ARTEMIS project is proud to have participated in the European Commission’s consultation on the implementation of the Nature Restoration Law (NRL). As part of this initiative, ARTEMIS provided valuable feedback on the proposed uniform format for national restoration plans, emphasizing the importance of seagrass restoration in the Mediterranean region.
Led by The Green Tank on behalf of the Interreg Euro-MED ARTEMIS project, our submission highlighted key recommendations to ensure the effective restoration of Posidonia oceanica, which our project is engaged in. ARTEMIS partners stressed the need for transparency in the restoration planning process, early and structured stakeholder engagement, and the consideration of site-specific ecological and socio-economic characteristics.
Additionally, we proposed integrating Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) schemes into the NRL framework, showcasing ARTEMIS’ efforts in testing innovative financial solutions for conservation.
With our contributions, we aim to support the European Commission and Member States in developing effective and science-based restoration plans that align with EU biodiversity and climate goals. The ARTEMIS project remains committed to advancing seagrass restoration and promoting sustainable marine ecosystem management across the Mediterranean.
