ARTEMIS Peer learning at the United Nations Ocean Conference | UNOC – NICE
Restoring our oceans is no longer optional—it’s essential. Yet achieving large-scale, lasting restoration of marine ecosystems like seagrass meadows remains a complex challenge. Fragmented efforts, siloed sectors, and policy gaps often stand in the way.
At the upcoming UN Ocean Conference on 11 June in Nice, the ARTEMIS project will host a dynamic Peer-Learning Session to explore how science, policy, and finance can work in alignment to accelerate marine restoration. This session will focus on the enabling conditions needed to scale up the recovery of Posidonia oceanica, one of the Mediterranean’s most vital—and threatened—seagrass species.
The event will feature expert contributions from:
-
The Government of the Balearic Islands
Together, these voices will share insights on how international frameworks, regional policy instruments, and innovative funding strategies can support coordinated and effective restoration action. The session will be moderated by our project partners Lisa Wiatschka & Pere Giralt Dunjó from Bax.
Designed as an open dialogue, this peer-learning format aims to break silos and foster practical knowledge exchange among marine practitioners, policy-makers, and funders. It will highlight how cross-sector collaboration is critical for achieving restoration at the scale our oceans urgently need.
