The Interreg Euro-MED Artemis project for (Accelerating the Restoration of Seagrass Meadows in the Mediterranean area through Innovative ecosystem-service based Solutions) has been officially launched, the kick-off meeting took place online on March 13th with all 10 partners. The project is led by Plan Bleu and assemble an interdisciplinary expertise from marine biology to economics, from policy management to stakeholder engagement and from 5 different countries Bulgaria, France, Greece, Italy and Spain.
Partners had the opportunity to discuss all together ARTEMIS’s innovative strategy to assesses and improves the ecological services that seagrass meadows offer at four pilot sites in Crete, Menorca, Monfalcone and Sardinia.
These services, which maintain marine biodiversity, preserve coastlines, and sequester carbon, demonstrate the value of these natural resources for human well-being and a sustainable economy in addition to biodiversity.
